It’s been a frightening year so far, in that it’s passed by so quickly. It only seemed moments ago when we were entering the new year, and wondering what 2012 would bring. In a blink of an eye, we’re almost through half the year. And to be honest, I’m still wondering… There have been a small number of notable titles (Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3) but the year so far has left me a little underwhelmed. This isn’t really a problem though, as I’m in a better position to pay attention to games that I’ve neglected in the past.
We recorded Episode 62 of the PixelCast last night, and we talked briefly about Tribes: Ascend (which I’ve also discussed here previously). And I mentioned how I fully intend on milking the F2P model as much as I could, and play as much of this game as I can without having to pay for it. Well, between last night and this morning, I’ve changed my tune. I’m going to be dropping some cash, and picking up some items.
Specifically, I’m looking to secure the X1 Light Machine Gun for the Juggernaut (which has been my goto class to date), and perhaps adding a few classes to open up more play options (I’m thinking Raider, Doombringer and Infiltrator).
In addition to purchasing content for Tribes: Ascend, I’ll also be dropping some cash into MechWarrior Online. The game itself is still in closed beta, but the developers have announced a Founder’s Program, which in addition to in-game currency, also provides other incentives as well.
Depending on how much you spend (US$30/60/120), early adopters may get extra mechs, premium accounts (gaining XP and in-game currency at an accelerated rate) and extra recognition (unique tags, and inclusion in the game’s credits). You can read more about the MechWarrior Online Founder’s Program here.
Tribes: Ascend is currently available to play on PCs. MechWarrior Online is currently in closed beta, and is slated to be released in Summer 2012.
